STMicroelectronics announced an expanded strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) through a multi-year, multi-billion USD commercial engagement covering several product categories. The agreement establishes STMicroelectronics as a strategic supplier of advanced semiconductor technologies and products integrated into AWS's compute infrastructure. This enables AWS to offer customers new high-performance compute instances, reduced operational costs, and improved scaling for compute-intensive workloads.
The engagement includes a broad range of semiconductor solutions from ST’s portfolio of proprietary technologies. ST will supply specialized capabilities in high-bandwidth connectivity, high-performance mixed-signal processing, advanced microcontrollers for intelligent infrastructure management, and analog and power ICs for energy efficiency in hyperscale data center operations.
The collaboration addresses increasing demands for compute performance, efficiency, and data throughput to support growing AI and cloud workloads. It is expected to help customers reduce total cost of ownership and accelerate time to market for products. As part of the expanded relationship, ST will collaborate with AWS to optimize electronic design automation (EDA) workloads in the cloud. AWS’s scalable compute power will support acceleration of silicon design, parallelization of design tasks, and flexibility for engineering teams to manage dynamic compute demands.
Jean-Marc Chery, President & CEO of STMicroelectronics, stated that the engagement establishes ST as an important supplier to AWS and confirms the strength of its innovation, proprietary technology portfolio, and manufacturing-at-scale capabilities. He noted that ST’s advanced semiconductor solutions will power AWS’s next-generation infrastructure, enabling customers to advance in AI, high-performance computing, and digital connectivity. The collaboration positions ST for further scale-up across market segments, including data center infrastructure and AI connectivity.
STMicroelectronics has issued warrants to AWS for the acquisition of up to 24.8 million ordinary shares of ST. The warrants vest in tranches over the term of the agreement, with vesting substantially tied to payments for ST products and services purchased by AWS and its affiliates. AWS may exercise the warrants in one or more transactions over a seven-year period from the issue date at an initial exercise price of $28.38.
