GlobalFoundries announced the availability of Auto Grade 1 ready embedded magnetic RAM (eMRAM) technology on its ultra-low power FDX platform, designated as FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM. The technology is now available for prototyping and is part of GF’s portfolio of non-volatile memory (eNVM) technologies and AutoPro platform for automotive-ready solutions.
The FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM provides endurance up to 500,000 cycles, sub-10 nanosecond read speed, and superior scalability for larger memory density compared to competitive industry-grade memories. It addresses known magnetic field effects and is qualified for reliable operation in harsh environments up to 150°C.
The technology enables high-performance system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for critical automotive applications, with on-chip integration on the enhanced FDX platform manufactured in both Germany and the U.S., supporting compact designs, energy efficiency, and security. eMRAM is used by Tier 1 OEMs in microcontroller units for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), supporting real-time processing for safety-critical functions and over-the-air updates.
As Physical AI systems advance, eMRAM’s fast access times and low power consumption support designs for autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.
Ed Kaste, senior vice president of GF’s ultra-low power CMOS business, stated that the Auto Grade 1 ready FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM platform combines fast, reliable MRAM with the energy-efficient FDX platform to enable next-generation SDVs and Physical AI systems, underscoring GF’s focus on automotive-ready solutions at scale.
Dr. Dominik Erb, vice president of digital semiconductor roadmaps & operations at Bosch, noted that MRAM provides speed, endurance, and reliability for next-generation MCUs in software-defined vehicles with real-time, distributed intelligence, and welcomed GF’s delivery of embedded MRAM on the FDX platform to meet growing automotive demand.
A process design kit for FDX+AutoPro150 eMRAM is available through GF’s self-service GF Connect portal. Volume production is scheduled for the second half of 2026 at GF’s manufacturing site in Dresden, supported by several key customer engagements.
