Purdue University has announced a master research agreement (MRA) with GlobalFoundries to formalize collaborative semiconductor research projects and expand student opportunities.
The agreement builds on a strategic partnership first announced in November 2022, providing a framework for multiple projects to launch quickly. Purdue and GlobalFoundries have started projects in semiconductor technologies, AI hardware, photonics and security.

The collaboration includes joint research and development programs with university students and faculty. GlobalFoundries provides academic partners access to its differentiated technologies and engineering support, and students and faculty can bring chip designs to manufacturing through the company’s multiproject wafer runs.
Mark Lundstrom, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Purdue’s College of Engineering, said the agreement establishes a streamlined framework for researchers and experts from both organizations to collaborate on shared interests and advance research and innovation.
Since 2023, GlobalFoundries has hosted students from Purdue’s Summer Training, Awareness, and Readiness for Semiconductors (STARS) program at its U.S. headquarters and fabrication facility. Purdue’s Semiconductor Degrees Program offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and credentials in semiconductors and microelectronics to develop a skilled semiconductor workforce.
