Maglut Heavy Industries emerges from stealth to boost US rare earth processing

Maglut Heavy Industries, a company developing a chromatography-based platform to process and refine rare earth elements domestically, announced today that it is emerging from stealth. The announcement was made in Long Beach, California.

Rare earth elements are essential inputs for semiconductors, energy infrastructure, defense systems, and most modern technology, making them critical to national security. Despite this, the United States currently has very limited domestic capacity to separate and process these materials.

Maglut's approach draws on a separation technique the biotech industry has spent decades refining to purify biologic medicines, adapting it for rare earth processing at scale. Unlike solvent extraction, the labor- and energy-intensive method traditionally used both domestically and internationally, Maglut's water-based process is designed to separate rare earth elements at a globally competitive cost while maintaining strong social acceptability.

Curtis Wu, Co-founder and CEO of Maglut, said rare earth processing is one of the clearest examples of a sovereign capability the U.S. allowed to decline. He said the countries that control access to critical minerals will shape the next era of technology, and that Maglut's mission is to rebuild domestic rare earth manufacturing by rethinking how these materials are processed.

The company marked the milestone with an invitation-only event at its Long Beach headquarters, giving guests an early look at ARC-1, Maglut's novel separation system, along with the team's approach to addressing one of American manufacturing's most significant strategic vulnerabilities.

Maglut is the only vertically integrated chromatography company in this space, designing and manufacturing its own resin technology. It has validated its ARC-1 process at pilot scale, successfully separating real-world feedstock into individual rare earth oxides at purities of 99.9% and higher.

The launch comes amid renewed scrutiny of rare earth supply chains. Starting in January 2027, new Department of War rules will require defense contractors to eliminate China from their rare earth magnet supply chains, creating clear long-term demand for domestic alternatives. At the same time, decades of cost improvements in chromatography technology, combined with rising rare earth prices, have opened the door for a new processing approach to gain traction.
