ROHM has developed the RS4P063BPHZG, a 100V MOSFET designed for automotive safety functions and protection circuits. The new product achieves industry-leading Wide-SOA (Safe Operating Area) across a broad voltage range in the standard HPLF5060 (5060-size) package commonly used in automotive applications. By incorporating a design that effectively suppresses secondary breakdown, it delivers roughly five times the SOA tolerance of standard equivalent-sized products under VDS=100V and PW=100μs, contributing to greater reliability in automotive applications exposed to momentary high-power loads, such as airbag inflator ignition circuits and seatbelt pretensioner drive circuits. Using the standard 5060-size package also simplifies replacement evaluation with existing layouts, helping reduce the workload and costs associated with design changes.
Ongoing advances in vehicle electrification are driving demand for automotive systems capable of supporting higher voltages and currents. Safety functions and protection circuits, in particular, can experience momentary high-power loads during abnormal or emergency conditions, requiring MOSFETs with high SOA capability to drive them reliably. ROHM has built a strong track record of delivering Wide-SOA products for AI servers and industrial power supplies, including components recommended by a global cloud platform provider, and the RS4P063BPHZG brings this same technology and expertise to the automotive sector.
Mass production began in June 2026, with a sample price of $4.0 per unit (excluding tax). The product is available through online distributors such as DigiKey and Farnell, and ROHM also offers design models and development tools on its website to support rapid circuit evaluation. Looking ahead, ROHM is developing additional automotive Wide-SOA MOSFETs in the HPLF8080 (8.0 × 8.0mm) and TOLG (TO-Leaded with Gullwing, 9.9 × 11.7mm) packages, and plans to continue expanding its portfolio for automotive safety functions and protection circuits.
Typical applications for the RS4P063BPHZG include airbag inflator ignition circuits, seatbelt pretensioner drive circuits, pyro-fuse drive circuits for battery cutoff, and other automotive safety and protection circuits exposed to short-duration high-current and high-voltage stress.
