Kontron is collaborating with NOFFZ Technologies on automated testing and quality assurance for its 5G communication modules in series production. At its Düsseldorf site, Kontron produces 5G Automotive Network Access Devices (NADs) and 5G Industrial M.2 communication modules.

As production volumes grow and module complexity increases, quality assurance and traceability demands also rise. Before dispatch, every module undergoes high-frequency and functional tests, which the companies say are time-consuming.

Kontron and NOFFZ Partner on Automated Testing for 5G Communication Modules

Kontron and NOFFZ are using highly parallelized test sequences and robot-assisted automation to support high-volume manufacturing. Several test specimens are tested simultaneously to enable short cycle times. Automated quality testing and integrated laser marking document the results for each module, providing complete traceability. The manufacturing and testing concepts are scalable for future communication modules.

Kontron’s 5G NADs serve as the communication interface in connected vehicles for over-the-air software updates, remote diagnostics, eCall functionality and future V2X applications. The Industrial M.2 modules are used in industrial IoT solutions. The release says manufacturing in Europe and resilient supply chains are becoming increasingly important for both sectors, particularly for critical communication technologies.
