BorgWarner has secured a new award to supply its next-generation high-voltage traction inverter technology for future battery-electric vehicle (BEV) programs. The customer is a major global automotive manufacturer, and the award extends BorgWarner's existing inverter business with it into its next generation of electric vehicles.
The high-voltage traction inverter converts the battery's direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) to power the electric motor. As a component of the electric drivetrain, the inverter plays a role in vehicle efficiency, performance and energy management.

The new inverter platform incorporates BorgWarner's latest power module technology and a simplified design architecture. Advanced manufacturing innovations and a compact system layout are intended to optimize efficiency while supporting cost competitiveness and improved packaging flexibility.
Isabelle McKenzie, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, PowerDrive Systems, said: "This award reflects the confidence customers place in BorgWarner's power electronics expertise and our ability to deliver innovative, high-performance electrification solutions."
