GlobalFoundries announced the appointment of Ganesh Moorthy to its board of directors, effective immediately. Mr. Moorthy previously served as president and CEO of Microchip Technology Inc. until his retirement in November 2024. He was appointed CEO and president of Microchip in March 2021 and joined its board of directors in January 2021. Before that, he held senior leadership positions at Microchip, including chief operating officer and executive vice president. Earlier in his career, he spent 19 years at Intel in engineering and executive leadership roles, gaining experience in manufacturing, product innovation, and customer execution.
Dr. Thomas Caulfield, Executive Chairman of GlobalFoundries, stated that Moorthy’s knowledge of semiconductor technology, large-scale manufacturing, and corporate growth will support the company’s strategy execution and leadership in essential semiconductor technologies. Caulfield noted that Moorthy’s leadership experience will aid in accelerating innovation and reinforcing GlobalFoundries’ position as a partner delivering essential technologies.
Ganesh Moorthy said GlobalFoundries is positioned to provide intelligence to everyday devices through differentiated, power-efficient semiconductors manufactured at scale. He expressed his interest in working with Caulfield, Tim, and the board to advance the company’s strategy, strengthen customer partnerships, and speed up delivery of technologies needed for real-world impact.
Mr. Moorthy currently serves as Chair of the Board of Ralliant, a global precision technologies company. He also sits on the boards of directors of Celanese, SiTime, and Ayar Labs, a company focused on optical interconnect solutions for large-scale AI workloads. Previously, he served for over a decade on the board of Rogers, a provider of engineered materials.
The appointment aligns with GlobalFoundries’ focus on long-term growth through a resilient manufacturing footprint that supplies power-efficient, differentiated technologies to customers worldwide.
