SiMa.ai has announced a collaboration with Cisco to integrate AI capabilities into Industry 4.0 environments. The partnership combines SiMa.ai’s Modalix AI platform with Cisco’s IE3500 industrial Ethernet switches to enable edge AI solutions for manufacturing, logistics, and industrial automation.
The integration focuses on addressing the demand for low-latency, high-performance AI at the edge, ensuring privacy, reliability, security, and performance for mission-critical applications. The SiMa.ai Modalix platform, designed for edge AI, features an architecture that supports diverse AI workloads with high performance per watt and a software-defined approach for rapid deployment of new AI models without hardware changes. Cisco’s IE3500 switches, built for harsh industrial environments, offer advanced security, precise timing, and environmental hardening for reliable connectivity and data transmission.

- Real-Time AI Processing: Modalix enables AI models to run at the edge, reducing latency compared to cloud-based processing for real-time decision-making in critical applications.
- Industrial-Grade Reliability: The IE3500 switches support AI workloads in demanding settings like manufacturing facilities and oil and gas operations.
- Simplified Deployment: Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities in IE3500 switches eliminate the need for separate power supplies for cameras and Modalix platforms, reducing connections.
- Secure Management: Cisco Secure Equipment Access (SEA) allows administrators to securely access and manage the Modalix platform and connected cameras remotely.
- Operational Efficiency: The solution supports applications such as predictive maintenance, quality inspection, anomaly detection, and process optimization to reduce downtime and improve resource utilization.
