The Karnataka government has finalised plans for three large-scale data centre parks with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW (1 GW) to support the state’s digital infrastructure needs. The parks include: 500 MW facility near Hoskote in Bengaluru, second park on 350 acres of KIADB land at Baikampady in Mangaluru and a third park in Mysuru. Two of the parks are located in cities outside Bengaluru, positioning Mangaluru and Mysuru as part of the state’s digital infrastructure network.

The plans were discussed in a preliminary meeting attended by Energy Minister KJ George, Industries Minister MB Patil, and Information Technology Minister Priyank Kharge. Officials have been directed to make preparatory arrangements and organise meetings with potential investors shortly.

The announcement follows a review of the state’s data centre policy in March, prompted by concerns over high energy and water consumption. Karnataka currently has 32 operational data centres.

The initiative addresses the growing demand for infrastructure to handle AI, cloud computing, and ML workloads while incorporating measures for sustainability.
