As connected systems expand across residential, industrial, and commercial environments, independently verified cybersecurity assurance has become a core requirement. The IEC 62443-4-1 standard specifies requirements for a secure development lifecycle (SDL), including threat modeling, secure design practices, rigorous implementation controls, verification and validation, and long-term defect and patch management.

UL Solutions’ certification confirms that Microchip integrates security into its hardware and software from initial design through end-of-life. These practices are applied consistently across business units and global design and manufacturing centers. The audit-backed assurance is intended to help customers simplify their cybersecurity evaluations, reduce supply-chain risk, and accelerate readiness for regulatory requirements such as the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Nuri Dagdeviren, corporate vice president of Microchip Technology’s secure computing group, stated that the IEC 62443-4-1 ML2 certification reflects the company’s practices in secure development. He noted that customers require partners who can demonstrate secure development maturity through independent validation rather than claims alone. The certification strengthens trust and reduces risk across the hardware-firmware stack while supporting customers in meeting CRA and other standards-based compliance.
