Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates Zetwerk Electronics Manufacturing Unit in Bengaluru for Defence, Automotive, and IT Hardware

Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M.B. Patil, inaugurated Zetwerk Electronics’ new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The unit focuses on defence, automotive, and IT hardware electronics and is located at the KIADB Hardware Park.

During the inauguration, Minister Vaishnaw stated that every product manufactured at the facility will meet high-quality standards. He noted the rapid growth in electronic component manufacturing in India, with 46 approvals already granted under relevant schemes. He added that Karnataka is expected to receive investments exceeding ₹10,000 crore in this sector.

The Minister referred to the recent budget, where the allocation for the electronic component manufacturing scheme was increased from ₹22,000 crore to ₹40,000 crore. He mentioned the national target set by the Prime Minister for electronics production to reach $500 billion by the 2030-2031 financial year.

Vaishnaw highlighted that complete 2-nanometer chip designs are now being done in India and that equipment manufacturers such as Applied Materials and Lam Research have established presence in the country. He indicated that bringing ASML is the next objective.

He announced that commercial production at semiconductor plants will begin this year, with the first commercially produced chip expected soon. The Minister described the upcoming phase as "Semicon 2.0," which will cover design, equipment manufacturing, chemicals, gases, validation, and yield improvement to support a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem.

The Minister stated that the goal is to train 85,000 silicon engineers over 10 years, with 67,000 already trained in the past four years. He said a large part of chip design will take place in India as a result. With the establishment of fabrication facilities, the roadmap now extends from 28-nanometer to 7-nanometer processes as part of this next phase.

Vaishnaw emphasized a cooperative approach among states for national growth and urged a broad vision to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047, as outlined by the Prime Minister.

Karnataka Minister M.B. Patil posted on X about the inauguration, describing the facility as state-of-the-art and noting that it aligns with global standards, strengthens domestic supply chains, generates high-quality employment, and reinforces Karnataka’s position in advanced manufacturing and innovation.
