Global tablet shipments reached 39 million units in Q2 2025, marking a 9% annual increase and 5% sequential growth, according to Canalys, now part of Omdia. The growth was driven by demand in China and EMEA, supported by consumer subsidies and commercial tenders. New product launches, particularly gaming tablets like Xiaomi’s Redmi K Pad (8.8”), Vivo’s Pad5, and Lenovo’s Legion Tab, contributed to the uptick, with the latter doubling shipments quarter-on-quarter. Vendors are integrating tablets into connected ecosystem strategies, with HONOR’s “Alpha” plan and Xiaomi’s “Human x Car x Home” initiative positioning tablets as central hubs, exemplified by the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra.

Apple led the tablet market, shipping 14.1 million iPads for a 2% year-on-year growth. Samsung followed with 6.7 million units. Huawei ranked third with 3.2 million units and 29% growth, surpassing Lenovo, which shipped 3.1 million units. Xiaomi, with 3 million units, narrowed the gap with Lenovo due to strong offline channels in China.

Chromebook shipments reached 11 million units in the first half of 2025, fueled by Japan’s GIGA School Program, which drove a more than twentyfold increase in shipments to Japan year-on-year. This demand is expected to continue through mid-2026, supported by public-sector funding across various markets. At the EDIX Tokyo 2025 exhibition in April, vendors and EdTech partners showcased devices to capitalize on the refresh cycle. Beyond Japan, Chromebook demand is rising in Asian education deployments.

Lenovo led the Chromebook market, shipping 3.5 million units with 27% growth, driven by its role in the GIGA School Program. HP, in second, shipped fewer units with a 4% decline. Acer followed with 2.2 million units and 10% growth. Dell shipped 1.5 million units, down 5%, while ASUS, with 0.8 million units, saw 43% growth.
