Renesas has entered into a partnership with India’s Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) to support local startups and academic institutions in VLSI and embedded semiconductor systems. The collaboration includes two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) signed with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) under the MeitY Chips to Startup (C2S) programme.

Renesas also inaugurated expanded offices in Bengaluru and Noida to accommodate its growing R&D teams. The Bengaluru office, the company’s largest in India, houses 500 employees, including R&D engineers, business teams, and staff from recently acquired Altium and Part Analytics. It features design teams, test labs, and facilities to support product development. The Noida office integrates engineering and business teams to deliver high-performance compute solutions, particularly for the automotive market, with a focus on R-Car system-on-chip (SoC) solutions.
The MOU signing and Noida office inauguration were attended by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology; Malini Narayanamoorthi, India Country Manager and VP at Renesas; and Rea Callendar from Altium, which partnered with Renesas in August 2024. Renesas CEO Hidetoshi Shibata joined virtually. A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Vaishnaw and Narayanamoorthi at the Noida office.
India is a key market for Renesas, which aims to generate over 10 percent of its global revenue from the region by 2030. The company plans to increase its India headcount to 1,000 by the end of 2025. Recent initiatives include an OSAT factory project with CG Power and Stars Microelectronics in Gujarat and an MOU with IIT Hyderabad.
The C2S programme, launched in December 2021, seeks to strengthen India’s semiconductor and display manufacturing by training specialized manpower, creating reusable IP repositories, and designing application-oriented systems.
Hidetoshi Shibata, CEO Renesas said "India is a strategic cornerstone for Renesas. Our long-term ambition is to jointly build a robust electronics ecosystem from ideation to design, and production to lifecycle management to meet the country’s growing needs. "
