Axiro Semiconductor, a subsidiary of CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd under the Murugappa Group, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art fabless semiconductor design centre in Whitefield, Bengaluru. Axiro presently offering range of RF semiconductor devices and intent to paly a key role in India’s ambition to become a global semiconductor hub, specializing in scalable chip solutions for 5G, 6G, defence, satellite communications, and industrial IoT markets.
The facility, designed as an innovation hub with advanced labs and scalable infrastructure, will support Axiro’s mission to deliver world-class silicon to global leaders like Ericsson, Nokia, Hughes, and Siemens, with millions of integrated circuits shipped monthly. Backed by a $36 million investment from CG Power, the centre underscores the Murugappa Group’s strategic entry into semiconductor design.
The inauguration was attended by industry and government leaders, including Mr. Sushil Pal, CEO of ISM, and Mr. Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power, who highlighted the centre’s role in fostering self-reliance and global innovation. “Axiro reflects India’s vision of technological excellence,” said Mr. Subbiah. The company also plans to expand its R&D team in 2026 and pursue sustainable operations through an ESG roadmap.
Axiro’s fabless model leverages GlobalFoundries for production, ensuring cost efficiency and high performance. With a focus on AI, automotive, and IoT applications, Axiro is set to accelerate India’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain, capitalizing on the nation’s growing electronics manufacturing sector.
Axiro Semiconductor had acquired the RF components business of Renesas in October 2024, through an asset purchase agreement, the acquisition encompasses Intellectual Property (IP), tangible assets, and a team of skilled employees specializing in semiconductor design, marketing, and applications. This move is designed to enhance India's capabilities in the high-growth, high-profitability semiconductor design and development sector by integrating Renesas' advanced RF technology and expertise. Mr. Vellayan Subbiah, Chairman of CG Power, underscored the importance of this acquisition, stating, "A significant number of semiconductor designers globally are Indians. Through this acquisition, we aim to enhance India’s presence in the semiconductor design & development space."
CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd had entered into a Joint Venture (JV) with Renesas Electronics Corporation and Stars Microelectronics in establishing an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. With CG Power holding a 92.3% stake, Renesas contributing 6.8%, and Stars Microelectronics 0.9%, the JV will invest INR 7,600 crores over five years to create a cutting-edge manufacturing plant. The facility aims to achieve a production capacity of 15 million units per day, catering to diverse industries such as automotive, consumer, industrial, and 5G with a broad range of semiconductor packages.
