Mitsubishi Electric India has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran, Mohali, aimed at giving engineering students practical, hands-on exposure to industrial automation technology and strengthening collaboration between industry and academia.
The centre was inaugurated by Atsushi Takase, managing director of Mitsubishi Electric India, alongside senior representatives from both Mitsubishi Electric India and CGC Landran. Also present were Parampal Singh Dhillon, vice chairman of CGC Landran; Dr. Rajdeep Singh, campus director; Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, director principal of CEC-CGC Landran; Dr. Vinay, head of the ECE department; Dr. Ashok Kumar, director of academics; and other directors and deans from the institution.
Established in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric India's Factory Automation & Industrial Division, the centre will let CGC Landran students take on additional learning modules covering Mitsubishi Electric's factory automation technologies alongside their regular academic coursework.
The centre is equipped with training systems covering programmable logic controllers (PLC), human-machine interfaces (HMI), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), AC servo systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), industrial robotics, collaborative robots (cobots), computer numerical control (CNC) systems, and other factory automation and Industry 4.0 technologies. Mitsubishi Electric India will also train CGC Landran faculty members on these technologies, enabling them to pass on practical knowledge to students and support ongoing, application-focused learning at the institution.
Atsushi Takase said technology moves fast, but it's people who turn technology into progress. He said Mitsubishi Electric believes in nurturing talent through practical learning, curiosity, and continuous improvement, and described the centre as a meaningful step toward bringing industry and academia closer together, giving young engineers the chance to learn using the technologies they may work with in the future. He said the company is proud to partner with CGC Landran in building this foundation for the next generation of engineers.
Dr. Rajdeep Singh, campus director at CGC Landran, said the centre brings advanced industrial technology closer to students and strengthens the connection between academic learning and industry practice. He said the collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric brings advanced factory automation technology into the classroom and gives students the opportunity to learn using industry-standard systems, and that the centre reinforces CGC Landran's commitment to developing skilled engineers prepared for the demands of modern manufacturing.
This Centre of Excellence is the first of its kind that Mitsubishi Electric has established in North India, marking an important step in the company's engagement with the region's academic community. Through the initiative, the company aims to contribute to developing industry-ready talent while raising awareness and understanding of factory automation technology among the next generation of engineers.
The partnership also reflects the growing importance of practical, application-focused learning as Indian manufacturing increasingly adopts automation, robotics, and digital technology. By bringing industry-standard equipment and training into an academic setting, the centre is meant to give students a better understanding of how automation technologies are applied in real-world manufacturing and industrial processes.
The centre's establishment is part of Mitsubishi Electric India's broader engagement with educational institutions and its efforts to support skill development across India. As industries increasingly adopt advanced manufacturing technologies, initiatives that bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application are expected to play an important role in preparing engineers for evolving workplace demands.
Through its collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric India, CGC Landran continues advancing its mission of delivering skill-focused, industry-relevant education in line with the goals of the National Education Policy 2020. The partnership further strengthens the institution's efforts to bridge the gap between industry and academia by giving students exposure to advanced technology, practical learning, and evolving industry requirements.
