Samsung partners with Mistral AI for AI-driven semiconductor infrastructure

Samsung Electronics has entered into a strategic partnership with Mistral AI aimed at enhancing its semiconductor engineering and manufacturing capabilities, reinforcing its position in AI chip technology.

The partnership was announced during a state summit held in Paris between South Korea and France. Under the agreement, Samsung will integrate Mistral's AI services and solutions, including its flagship large language model, Mistral Large, across its semiconductor operations to develop customized, on-premises AI models optimized for AI-driven infrastructure.

Samsung expects Mistral's AI platform to provide a distinctive set of tools that could reshape how semiconductors are designed and manufactured. Running these AI solutions on-premises, meaning within Samsung's own infrastructure rather than through external cloud services, is meant to ensure the security and flexibility needed to process highly sensitive technology and operational data entirely within Samsung's own semiconductor facilities, letting the company maintain full control over its mission-critical technology.

As semiconductor manufacturing processes become more advanced and complex, being able to rapidly analyze data on the factory floor has become essential. By applying targeted AI models to defect detection and equipment optimization, Samsung aims to speed up development cycles, improve manufacturing precision, and stabilize production yields across its advanced memory and logic chips.

Samsung's lead role in that investment reflects a broader trend of expanding cross-industry collaboration across the advanced chip ecosystem.

By combining its leading chip manufacturing technology with AI innovators like Mistral, Samsung says it plans to continue advancing a broader AI transformation across its semiconductor operations, aiming to meet the diverse needs of customers spanning advanced memory, logic chips, and foundry services.
