China based VeriSilicon Microelectronics  has launched GCNanoOptimaV, its next-generation 2.5D Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) IP designed for wearable devices. Dedicated hardware acceleration engines and an optimized memory architecture are designed to improve graphics rendering performance and memory efficiency.

The GPU IP targets demand for advanced graphics capabilities in wearables while addressing their resource constraints, enabling richer and more responsive graphical user interfaces (GUIs).

GCNanoOptimaV includes dedicated hardware stroke and ellipse engines to address vector graphics rendering bottlenecks. Its hardware stroke engine improves rendering of complex lines and curves, including in health monitoring, fitness tracking and navigation applications. A mesh rendering architecture reduces on-chip SRAM requirements for GPU integration in resource-constrained SoC designs.

The GPU integrates VeriSilicon’s DECNano 3.0 compression engine, which maintains a fixed 2:1 compression ratio while improving image quality. It is compatible with VeriSilicon's VGLite graphics API and supports the LVGL, SVG and PNG frameworks and formats. The company says this compatibility allows existing applications to migrate with minimal modifications.
