Littelfuse, announced the SM15KPA-HR/HRA and SM30KPA-HR/HRA High-Reliability Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Diode Series. The new devices expand the company’s high-reliability TVS diode portfolio with compact SPD4-1 surface-mount packages designed for avionics, military, and other mission-critical systems.
The series provides 15 kW or 30 kW peak pulse dissipation capability for 10/1000 μs waveforms. Both families support full SMT pick-and-place assembly and operate over a junction temperature range of –55 °C to 150 °C. They feature a fast response time of less than 1 ps, excellent clamping behavior, low incremental surge resistance, and 30 kV ESD protection per IEC 61000-4-2.
The SM15KPA-HR/HRA and SM30KPA-HR/HRA Series offer protection up to RTCA/DO-160 Waveform 5A Level 5 lightning surge compliance. Screening includes 100% surge testing, high-temperature storage, temperature cycling, X-ray inspection, HTRB testing, and final electrical characterization in accordance with MIL-STD-750.
The four versions differ as follows:
- SM15KPA-HR: 15 kW, reverse standoff voltage 20–400 V, minimum breakdown voltage 22.3–444 V, Group B tests included
- SM15KPA-HRA: 15 kW, reverse standoff voltage 20–400 V, minimum breakdown voltage 22.3–444 V, Group B tests not included
- SM30KPA-HR: 30 kW, reverse standoff voltage 28–400 V, minimum breakdown voltage 31.1–444 V, Group B tests included
- SM30KPA-HRA: 30 kW, reverse standoff voltage 28–400 V, minimum breakdown voltage 31.1–444 V, Group B tests not included
Additional specifications include high temperature reflow capability of 245 °C for 10 seconds, matte-tin RoHS-compliant construction, and whisker testing per JEDEC JESD201A. All four series are available in unidirectional and bidirectional polarity options.
Target applications include avionics flight computers and controllers, navigation, communication, and radar electronics, eVTOL propulsion and battery management systems, defense and aerospace power distribution modules, and high-reliability industrial and transportation platforms requiring lightning surge immunity.
The devices are supplied in tape and reel packaging in quantities of 500. Samples are available through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
