Synaptics announced SYN765x, a single-chip wireless solution integrating AI-optimized compute with Wi-Fi 7. The device targets smart appliances, home automation systems, and Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications, combining Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth LE 6.0, and Thread/Zigbee across 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. Dedicated on-chip acceleration handles predefined AI-native control and signal-processing functions to reduce host processor load while meeting latency and power constraints.
The SYN765x supports concurrent operation of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread, with sustained 20 Mbps throughput up to 200 meters. It enables advanced wireless sensing, including presence detection, motion tracking, and proximity awareness using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals. For Wi-Fi sensing, it extracts high-accuracy Channel State Information (CSI) combined with on-device machine learning.
Bluetooth Channel Sounding provides accurate, power-efficient distance measurements as an alternative to mmWave radar or ultra-wideband. Integrated logic, DSP, and NPU resources support embedded Edge AI workloads, with AI-driven contextual awareness for power efficiency. The device supports flexible deployment as a co-processor with a host application processor or MCU, or in standalone/host-less modes due to on-chip memory and processing resources, potentially eliminating a separate microcontroller in many designs.
Features include:
Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 (1x1, 20 MHz), Bluetooth 6.0, Thread
Concurrent multi-protocol operation
AI-enabled algorithms for Wi-Fi Sensing, Bluetooth Channel Sounding, Sound Event Detection
Triple combo integration with PCB footprint under 100 mm²
QFN package for non-HDI PCB
Integrated LNA, PA, and T/R switches
Up to 25% lower RBOM compared to multi-chip solutions
Extensive peripherals: UART, SPI, SDIO, I2C, I2S, USB, GPIO, ADC, DAC, PDM
Vikram Gupta, SVP & GM, Edge Compute & Connectivity Division at Synaptics, stated that intelligence at the Edge requires uncompromising wireless performance, with SYN765x integrating Wi-Fi 7, BLE, Thread/Zigbee, and AI-native processing to simplify design, lower power and cost barriers, and accelerate next-generation wireless adoption in consumer, industrial, and enterprise IoT markets.
