Diodes AL5958Q LED Driver Enables Dynamic Automotive Lighting with 48-Channel Matrix Control

Diodes launched AL5958Q, an automotive-compliant 48-channel matrix LED driver designed for dynamic lighting in vehicle platforms. The device supports up to 32 scans and is suited for narrow pixel mini- and micro-LED displays used in applications such as central information displays, cluster displays, head-up displays, grill and emblem lights, body LED panels, interior lights, and rear lights.

The AL5958Q features built-in matrix display command functions, including automatic black-frame insertion to reduce blur, suppression of ghost images from parasitic capacitors, and mitigation of short-LED caterpillars. It includes open-LED fail lines, staggered current output delay to limit inrush current, grayscale enhancement for low-brightness uniformity, a grayscale clock watchdog timer, and a sleep mode for power savings. The driver integrates 16 N-MOSFET switches and scan control per device, supporting static and dynamic systems with flexible scan sequences from 0 to 32 scans. Multiple AL5958Q devices can be daisy-chained for larger RGB displays and local dimming.

The driver provides 16-bit resolution dimming and RGB support for precise brightness control and color mixing. Current output for each color group can be set via three external current-sensing resistors or three 6-bit global current control registers. Its multiplex-pulse density modulation (M-PDM) technolog...
