Renesas Electronics launched the RZ/G3E, a 64-bit microprocessor designed for high-performance Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems. The MPU integrates a quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU running at up to 1.8GHz, a Cortex-M33 core, and an Ethos-U55 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI tasks, targeting applications in industrial, medical, retail, and building automation sectors. It supports Full HD (1920x1080) video at 60fps on two independent displays via LVDS, MIPI-DSI, and parallel RGB interfaces, with a MIPI-CSI camera interface for video input.
The RZ/G3E facilitates AI applications like image classification, object recognition, voice recognition, and anomaly detection, minimizing CPU load. It includes high-speed connectivity options such as PCI Express 3.0 (2 lanes) at 8Gbps, USB 3.2 Gen2 at 10Gbps, dual-channel Gigabit Ethernet, and CAN-FD for integration with cloud services, storage, and 5G modules. The MPU supports 32-bit LPDDR4/LPDDR4X memory with ECC and operates in temperatures from -40°C to 125°C.
Power management features, starting with the RZ/G3S, enable low standby power consumption of approximately 50mW and 1mW in deep standby mode, with DDR self-refresh for quick Linux application resume. The RZ/G3E supports the Verified Linux Package (VLP) based on the Civil Infrastructure Platform with over 10 years of maintenance, alongside Linux BSP Plus with the latest LTS Linux kernel, Yocto, Ubuntu, and Debian.
Available in 15mm square 529-pin FCBGA and 21mm square 625-pin FCBGA packages, the RZ/G3E is part of Renesas’ 15-year Product Longevity Program. System-on-module solutions include SMARC from Tria, OSM (Size-M) from ARIES Embedded, and OSM (Size-L) from MXT. Renesas also offers Winning Combinations, such as the Full HD Dual-Display HMI Platform and Digital Otoscope, combining the RZ/G3E with compatible devices for optimized system designs.
The RZ/G3E and its Evaluation Board Kit, including a SMARC v2.1.1 module and carrier board, are available now. More details can be found at renesas.com/rzg3e.
