Bourns has expanded its Multifuse MF-MSMF Series of high-power surface mount Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses. The company has added 32 new part numbers and increased the number of models with a maximum voltage (Vmax) capability of 60 VDC. The expansion addresses customer needs for a broader range of hold currents (Ihold), spanning from 100 mA to 2.6 A, and higher voltage requirements. These resettable fuses are designed to provide overcurrent and overtemperature protection for applications within specified parameters.

The updated MF-MSMF Series incorporates Bourns’ freeXpansion design, which supports higher hold currents, increased voltage capabilities, and improved resistance stability in a compact form factor. Several models are offered in the 1812 package size, which reduces costs and saves PCB space compared to the previously available 2920 package. These components are suitable for applications such as low DC voltage ports in USB, HDMI, HDTV, PCs, laptops, data centers, and portable consumer products.

The MF-MSMF Series undergoes testing, including 30-minute hold current, 100-cycle trip life, and 48-hour trip endurance tests, as well as 1000-hour passive aging, 1000-hour humidity aging, and 20-cycle thermal shock evaluations. The surface-mount device (SMD) terminals feature Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) plating to enhance solderability, extend shelf life, and prevent tin whisker formation.

The 32 new part numbers are available through Bourns’ authorized distribution partners and are RoHS compliant. The fuses carry UL/CSA/TÜV recognition, meeting safety standards including IEC 62319-1, IEC 60738-1, and IEC 60730-1:2013 (clauses 15, 17, and Annex J). They are manufactured in a Bourns facility certified to IATF 16949 standards.
