Qualcomm Technologies, and Trackhouse Racing announced on June 3, 2026, that former Formula 1 and current FIA World Endurance Championship driver Kevin Magnussen will drive the No. 91 Qualcomm Chevrolet in the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego on June 21.
Qualcomm Technologies serves as the Official Circuit Partner of the NASCAR San Diego race weekend. The partnership brings back the PROJECT91 entry, with Qualcomm acting as the primary partner for Magnussen and the No. 91 car. Qualcomm will support Trackhouse Racing’s on-track performance using artificial intelligence through the Qualcomm Dragonwing AI on-prem appliance. The technology provides real-time data insights to the competition and performance team, streamlining in-race decision-making by analyzing and distributing complex data and radio communications to race engineers at the track and race shop.
Kevin Magnussen, a native of Roskilde, Denmark, made his Formula 1 debut in 2014 with McLaren and achieved a podium finish in his first race. He later drove for Haas F1 Team, securing the team’s first pole position at the 2022 São Paulo Grand Prix. He has also competed in the NTT IndyCar Series and currently races in the FIA World Endurance Championship Hyperclass and select IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP events.
“I’m incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to compete in NASCAR,” said Magnussen. He has already participated in seat fitting, pit stop procedures, and other preparations with the team in North Carolina.
Phil Surgen will serve as crew chief for Magnussen. Surgen joined Trackhouse Racing in 2022 and has six Cup Series victories and two playoff appearances.
PROJECT91 was created by Trackhouse Racing founder Justin Marks in 2022 to field Cup Series entries for international racing drivers. Previous PROJECT91 drivers include Kimi Räikkönen (2022 and 2023), Shane van Gisbergen (2023), and Helio Castroneves (2025 Daytona 500). This will be Magnussen’s first NASCAR Cup Series start and the sixth PROJECT91 entry.
Magnussen will join Trackhouse Racing’s full-time drivers Shane van Gisbergen, Ross Chastain, and Connor Zilisch for the 75-lap race on the 3.4-mile naval base street course. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime.
