The 2026 IPC Masters Competition China officially opened on March 25, 2026, at productronica China in Shanghai. The event, focused on electronics manufacturing standards and skills, attracted 623 participants from 77 electronics manufacturing companies across China for the IPC Standards Knowledge Competition. Of those, 132 advanced to the hands-on competition round, marking the largest edition in the competition’s history.
The hands-on portion features three upgraded practical challenges aligned with real-world manufacturing scenarios. The hand soldering and rework competition now includes D-PAK component rework and mechanical assembly tasks, with scoring based on the latest IPC-7711/7721 standards. The wire harness assembly competition adds enhanced functional testing and high-precision automated inspection. The BGA/BTC rework competition increases PCB assembly complexity and incorporates new AOI-based visual inspection.
The competition combines standards knowledge assessment with practical skills evaluation. It addresses the electronics industry’s shift toward applications in AI, high-performance computing, and new energy, where higher process capabilities and skilled talent are required for product reliability and manufacturing quality.
IPC standards function as a common reference across the global electronics manufacturing supply chain. The event aims to promote the application of these standards on the production floor and develop talent proficient in both standards and technical execution.
Sydney Xiao, President of East Asia at the Global Electronics Association, stated that this year’s competition maintains the dual evaluation model of standards knowledge and hands-on skills while increasing participation scale and technical depth. She noted improvements in professionalism and diversity, with the event aligning with industry trends to support high-quality development through standards and talent.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for March 27, 2026. Further details are available on the official website at masters.ipc.org.cn or via IPC Asia on WeChat.
