Lam Research Appoints Cadence CEO Anirudh Devgan to its BoD Amid AI Semiconductor Push

Lam Research has appointed Dr. Anirudh Devgan to its board of directors, effective immediately. Dr. Devgan serves as president and chief executive officer of Cadence Design Systems, Inc., a company focused on computational software, AI, and digital twins. He joined Cadence in 2012 and has held multiple senior roles, including executive vice president and general manager of the Digital & Signoff and System Verification groups. He became president in 2017 and assumed the CEO position and board membership in 2021.

Under his tenure, Cadence has advanced the use of AI in engineering design and expanded into system analysis and computational life sciences. Before Cadence, Dr. Devgan was corporate vice president and a member of the executive staff at Magma Design Automation. He also held management and technical positions at IBM.

Dr. Devgan is recognized in the field of electronic design automation (EDA). His career includes pioneering work on massively parallel and distributed architectures, leading to several industry-first developments, and establishing a common compiler architecture for emulation and prototyping platforms.

He holds 27 U.S. patents and is an IEEE Fellow and member of the National Academy of Engineering. He serves on the boards of the Global Semiconductor Alliance and the Electronic System Design Alliance.

Dr. Devgan earned a B.Tech. in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

The appointment increases the size of Lam Research's board by one seat. Dr. Devgan has joined the board’s Innovation and Technology Committee.

Abhijit Talwalkar, chair of the board at Lam Research, stated that Dr. Devgan brings knowledge of EDA, virtualization, and the semiconductor ecosystem, and that the company expects to draw on his experience as it works to increase operational velocity and innovation in support of AI-related demands.
