Omdia Tablet Shipments Q3 2025: 5% Global Growth, Chromebook Education Surge, China Demand

Worldwide tablet shipments reached 40 million units in Q3 2025, up 5% year-on-year, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of growth and extending a two-year streak.

Growth was driven by demand in the Middle East and Central Europe, consumer purchasing in China, and a surge in Chrome tablet shipments to Japan from the government’s GIGA 2.0 education initiative. Chromebook shipments reached 4.2 million units, up 3% year-on-year, with education deployments expanding worldwide, including in Central and Eastern Europe and North America.

Himani Mukka, Research Manager at Omdia, stated that the consumer-driven tablet market has shown resilience in 2025 despite macroeconomic headwinds. Shipments have outperformed expectations with uninterrupted growth for two years. Demand factors include new product launches, government subsidies, kids’ and gaming tablets, competitive pricing, promotional campaigns, and back-to-school buying varying by regional academic calendars.

In Q3 2025, seasonal sell-in occurred ahead of Western holidays and Asia-Pacific and China’s holiday and 11.11 sales. Sell-in is expected to remain muted and flat in Q4 2025 and into 2026 as replacement demand softens.
