JEDEC Advances UFS 5.0 Standard for AI, Mobile, and Edge Flash Storage
JEDEC Solid State Technology Association announced that the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 5.0 standard is nearing completion. Designed for mobile, computing, automotive, edge computing, and gaming console applications, UFS 5.0 aims to deliver faster data access and improved performance over UFS 4.x while maintaining hardware compatibility.
UFS 5.0 features sequential performance up to 10.8 GB/s to support AI demands, integrated link equalization for enhanced signal integrity, a distinct power supply rail for noise isolation between the PHY and memory subsystem, and inline hashing for improved security. These features stem from collaboration with the MIPI Alliance, leveraging the upcoming MIPI M-PHY version 6.0 and UniPro version 3.0 specifications. M-PHY 6.0 introduces High-Speed Gear 6 (HS-G6), doubling the data rate of HS-G5 to achieve a UFS interface bandwidth of 46.6 Gb/s per lane, supporting the 10.8 GB/s read/write operation over two M-PHY lanes.
JEDEC continues to evaluate additional features for UFS 5.0 prior to its publication. The organization invites companies to join its membership to access pre-publication proposals and contribute to standards development. JEDEC standards may change during or after development, subject to approval by the JEDEC Board of Directors. For more information on membership, visit the JEDEC website.
