SkyWater Technology has entered into a license agreement with Infineon Technologies, securing access to a library of silicon-proven, mixed-signal ASIC design IP. This agreement enables the design and production of high-reliability mixed-signal System-on-Chips (SoCs) within a secure U.S. supply chain, addressing a critical need for domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
The IP, originally developed by Cypress Semiconductor, has been validated in high-volume, automotive-grade applications and will be integrated into SkyWater’s S130 platform. This platform supports both commercial and defense markets, offering mixed-signal building blocks such as embedded Non-Volatile Memory (NVM), SRAM compilers, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), digital-to-analog converters (DACs), power management, timing, and communications modules. These components have powered billions of devices across automotive, industrial, medical, and consumer sectors.
Ross Miller, SVP of SkyWater’s Commercial and A&D Business, noted that over 90% of global mixed-signal ASIC production occurs offshore, despite the importance of mature nodes for automotive, industrial, and defense applications. The agreement aims to shift this dynamic by combining validated IP with U.S.-based manufacturing, enabling customers to develop reliable ASICs domestically.
Percy Gilbert, SVP of Engineering, stated that the S130 platform’s reliability in demanding environments, paired with accessible IP, reduces design risk, accelerates time to market, and lowers development costs for complex analog and mixed-signal ASICs.
SkyWater will incorporate the IP into its Technology as a Service (TaaS) model, supporting the design of sophisticated, high-reliability SoCs for automotive and mission-critical applications. The company will prioritize converting IP blocks for general foundry use based on market demand, providing design enablement support, including Process Design Kits (PDKs), documentation, and integration assistance for qualified customers.
