Qualcomm validates SK hynix LPDDR5T for compatibility with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

SK hynix has recently commenced the commercialization of the LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo), which is acclaimed as the fastest DRAM for mobile devices worldwide, boasting an impressive speed of 9.6Gbps.
In a significant development, the company has successfully obtained validation confirming the compatibility of LPDDR5T with Qualcomm Technologies' cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. This remarkable achievement marks the first instance in the industry where a product of this nature has been verified by the U.S. company.
SK hynix has completed the compatibility validation of the LPDDR5T, after its development in January, with the support of Qualcomm Technologies. The completion of the process confirms its compatibility with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
The validation process has been successfully concluded with Qualcomm Technologies, a renowned leader in wireless telecommunication products and services, as well as other prominent mobile AP (Application Processor) providers.SK hynix anticipates a rapid expansion in the adoption of LPDDR5T.
The company intends to offer a product with a storage capacity of 16GB, which is a blend of several individual LPDDR5T chips. This product boasts a remarkable data processing speed of 77GB per second, which is equivalent to processing 15 full-HD movies in just one second.
The LPDDR5T product boasts superior power efficiency, operating at the lowest voltage range specified by JEDEC standards (1.01~1.12V).
SK hynix has successfully implemented the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process, resulting in a significant enhancement in both speed and power efficiency. By embracing this cutting-edge technology, the company anticipates that the LPDDR5T will capture a substantial portion of the market before the introduction of the next-generation LPDDR6.

Ryu said that smartphones are expected to grow their presence as the key devices where the AI technologies are fully applied onto in coming years. “I believe the smartphone functions, backed by excellent DRAM for mobile, should continue to improve. We will continue to work toward strengthening our collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to advance the technology in this space.”
