Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan (NTCJ) and Qt Group have made Nuvoton's Gerda HMI controller platform a supported target for Qt for MCUs, enabling graphical interfaces without external memory for automotive, motorcycle and home appliance applications. The combination supports rich graphics, smooth animations and responsive touch interaction.
The companies said the capability addresses demand for more sophisticated user experiences in software-defined vehicles, the effect of memory costs on system budgets, and expectations for over-the-air (OTA) updates across connected products.

Gerda's built-in RAM and display, connectivity and control interfaces enable standalone HMI systems without external memory. Qt for MCUs graphics optimization and Gerda texture compression work together to reduce the GUI memory footprint, lowering component count and total system cost for high-volume products.
The Qt for MCUs development environment and Gerda's security features support safe, efficient OTA updates, allowing developers to change interfaces and add features after a product ships. Qt for MCUs also provides an integrated development environment, ready-made GUI components, the QML language, simulation and agentic AI skills to support workflows from design through implementation and verification.
Yoshihide Kanakubo, vice president of Battery and Automotive BG at Nuvoton, said: “The quality of the user experience has become a key differentiator for modern products. By combining Gerda with Qt for MCUs, customers can deliver premium graphical user experiences while balancing performance, memory efficiency, and system cost.”
Qt for MCUs support for the Gerda family is available as of November 5, 2026. Nuvoton will demonstrate Qt-based interfaces running on Gerda hardware at electronica 2026, Hall B5, Booth 360, at Trade Fair Center Messe München in Munich, Germany, November 10-13, 2026.
