M31 Technology, a global silicon intellectual property (IP) provider, has unveiled an expanded technology collaboration with Rambus involving Rambus' MIPI CSI (Camera Serial Interface) Controller and MIPI DSI (Display Serial Interface) Controller technologies. MIPI is a widely used industry standard for connecting cameras and displays to a chip. The collaboration combines Rambus' controller technology with M31's existing, silicon-proven MIPI PHY portfolio, the physical layer components that handle the actual electrical signaling, letting M31 offer a complete MIPI subsystem solution that integrates high-speed MIPI PHYs together with MIPI CSI and DSI controllers, aimed at addressing the growing demands of high-resolution imaging and display applications.
By integrating key functions like MIPI CSI and DSI controllers directly into its offering, M31 says it can help customers reduce the verification and development risks that typically come with combining IP from multiple different vendors, while also speeding up product development and time to market. The company frames this as strengthening its overall product completeness and competitiveness within the broader MIPI interface IP market.
Demand for MIPI technology continues rising across smartphones, automotive ADAS cameras, multi-display cockpit systems, and AI edge devices, making it the mainstream standard for camera and display interfaces, with its range of applications steadily expanding. Industry analysts project the global interface IP market will reach approximately $5.4 billion by 2029, making up a growing share of the overall semiconductor IP market, with high-speed interface IP, including USB, PCIe, and MIPI, continuing to be a key growth driver for the broader silicon IP licensing market.
Scott Chang, CEO of M31, said demand for integrated MIPI solutions is growing as smartphones, automotive displays, and intelligent cockpit systems move toward higher resolutions and multi-display designs. He said that in the past, customers often needed to procure controllers separately and then rely on M31 to handle integration themselves, but with this collaboration, customers can more confidently hand over the complete MIPI interface design to M31, reducing the verification and development risks that come from integrating IP across multiple vendors. He said the combined subsystem's synergies will further strengthen M31's competitiveness in the MIPI market.
As M31 expands its portfolio from offering PHY technology alone to complete subsystem solutions that include controllers, the company expects the average total contract value of related deals to increase compared to its previous PHY-only licensing model. Overall, M31 frames this one-stop approach as increasing the value of MIPI-related IP design wins while further reinforcing its competitive position in the global MIPI interface IP market, supporting the company's strategic focus on automotive, smartphone, and AI edge computing applications.
