Quintessent, a company developing resilient, low-cost optical interconnect products for AI data centers, has hired Ramesh Senthinathan, Ph.D., as vice president of system engineering, and Manar Mohamed as director of business development and marketing.
Senthinathan will lead development of Quintessent's interconnect products, which are built on the company's quantum-dot technology platform. His background spanning both electrical and optical engineering brings the cross-disciplinary expertise needed to build high-performance optical connectivity systems for rapidly scaling AI data centers.
Senthinathan brings more than 30 years of engineering leadership experience developing high-performance semiconductors and systems-on-chip. His background spans x86, ARM, MIPS, GPU, DSP, and custom machine learning silicon, along with optical networking and wireless communications. He holds a Ph.D. and master's degree in electronic engineering from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University at Buffalo.
Mohamed joins Quintessent to lead commercial growth and expand the market for the company's optical connectivity products. He brings 20 years of experience across sales, marketing, product management, and business development, with extensive experience working with data center and semiconductor customers.
Mohamed spent 13 years at Intel, primarily within its data center business, where he drove complex compute infrastructure design wins and built strategic partnerships with cloud hyperscale and enterprise customers. He began his career at GE. Mohamed attended Purdue University and earned his MBA from Columbia University in New York City.
Alan Liu, co-founder and CEO of Quintessent, said the company has developed a differentiated optical technology platform that addresses critical challenges in scaling AI infrastructure, and that Quintessent is now entering the commercial phase of bringing that technology to market. He said Senthinathan and Mohamed bring the deep industry, technology, and customer knowledge the company needs as it makes this transition, expands its product portfolio, and builds the business to support long-term growth.
These appointments follow several recent milestones for Quintessent. In August, the company raised $40 million in an oversubscribed Series A funding round and began customer sampling of its single-chip, quantum dot-based DWDM comb laser, a new class of light source designed to simplify optical connectivity for rapidly scaling AI clusters.
