ChipAgents has announced that Andes Technology, a supplier of RISC-V processor IP and a founding premier member of RISC-V International, has successfully deployed ChipAgents' agentic AI platform across multiple processor design and verification projects. In production use, Andes cut a processor customization task from 8.5 weeks down to six weeks, a 30% reduction in development time, while also cutting a separate verification workflow from two to three months down to roughly three weeks. To mark the collaboration, ChipAgents awarded Andes its "Customer #1" appreciation trophy.
William Wang, CEO of ChipAgents, said the semiconductor industry is entering an era where customization is becoming a competitive advantage, but customization has traditionally come at the cost of significant engineering time. He said that as companies build more specialized processors for AI, edge computing, and other domain-specific applications, engineering teams are being asked to deliver more innovation without stretching development schedules, and that ChipAgents is changing that equation by helping engineers move faster through some of the most time-consuming parts of chip design and verification.
One specific challenge ChipAgents helped Andes address was customizing a Memory Load-Store Unit (LSU), a critical processor component responsible for managing memory operations. Modifying components like this traditionally requires engineers to spend weeks tracing through legacy RTL (register-transfer level code, the low-level hardware description defining a chip's logic), analyzing how different architectural elements depend on each other, and validating correctness before new functionality can be added. Using ChipAgents, Andes cut that project timeline from 8.5 weeks to six weeks while still maintaining architectural correctness.
ChipAgents also helped address verification, one of the most persistent bottlenecks in chip development. Verifying a Bus Interface Unit (BIU), a component that manages how a processor communicates over its internal bus, traditionally requires extensive manual work to keep specifications and verification environments in sync and to build tests covering complex scenarios where multiple operations happen simultaneously. By using ChipAgents, Andes reduced a workflow that normally took two to three months down to about three weeks. Complex tasks involving generating verification test scenarios, which previously took engineers one to two weeks, were reduced to as little as one to two days.
Yung-Ching Hsiao, senior vice president of R&D at Andes Technology, said that as processor architectures continue to evolve, both customization and verification are becoming increasingly resource-intensive. He said ChipAgents helps Andes' teams reduce manual effort across multiple engineering workflows, letting the company speed up development schedules while still maintaining the quality and correctness required for production-grade processor designs.
ChipAgents frames the Andes deployment as reflecting a broader reality many engineering teams face today: processor development isn't getting any simpler, even as customers push for faster timelines. Every new feature, customization request, and verification cycle adds work to already-stretched engineering teams, creating growing demand for ways to remove manual effort from the development process so engineers can spend more time actually building and less time maintaining existing work.
ChipAgents says its platform was built specifically for semiconductor engineers, rather than functioning as a generic coding assistant. It's designed to help engineering teams navigate specifications, legacy RTL, verification environments, and the other types of engineering data that make up day-to-day chip development work, with the goal of reducing the time engineers spend searching for information, updating infrastructure, and performing repetitive tasks, freeing them up to focus on solving actual engineering problems.
