Memory Chip Leader Micron Selects Bechtel for First Phase Construction of New York Semiconductor Fab in Clay

Micron Technology, Inc. and Bechtel announced that Micron has selected Bechtel as its partner for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the first phase of its leading-edge memory manufacturing complex in Clay, New York.

Bechtel will mobilize immediately at the White Pine Commerce Park site in Onondaga County and scale its presence quickly. The selection follows the ground-breaking on Micron’s first New York fab in January 2026 and marks the transition to the next phase of construction.

The project is described as the largest private investment in New York state history. It is planned to become the nation’s largest semiconductor manufacturing facility and is projected to add approximately $16.7 billion per year in real economic output to the state and approximately $5.4 billion per year in personal income for New Yorkers over the next 30 years.

The complex is expected to generate 50,000 jobs in New York, including over 4,500 construction jobs. At peak construction, the work will support thousands of skilled craft professionals. Micron and Bechtel plan community outreach to develop the local supply chain and trade labor ecosystem. For every direct Micron hire, almost six other jobs are expected to be created in the state economy.
