Kioxia BG8 Series PCIe 5.0 Client SSDs Announced for Mainstream PCs with Up to 10,300 MB/s Reads

Kioxia Corporation today announced the KIOXIA BG8 Series solid state drives (SSDs), the next evolution of its client SSD lineup designed for PC OEM customers. The drives deliver PCIe 5.0 speed to the mainstream segment and are intended for slim laptops, commercial and consumer notebooks, and desktop systems.

The KIOXIA BG8 Series is built with Kioxia’s BiCS FLASH generation 8 TLC-based 3D flash memory. Compared to the previous generation KIOXIA BG7 Series SSDs, the BG8 Series achieves up to 47 percent higher sequential read performance, 67 percent higher sequential write performance, 44 percent higher random read performance, and 30 percent higher random write performance.

The series reaches sequential read speeds of up to 10,300 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s. Random read performance reaches up to 1.4 million IOPS and random write performance reaches up to 1.3 million IOPS. The SSDs are DRAM-less and support the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature, which leverages host system memory.

The KIOXIA BG8 Series is available in multiple M.2 form factors—Type 2230, Type 2242, and Type 2280—to support a range of system designs and mounting requirements. It is optimized for slim and mainstream client PCs.
