Vishay Intertechnology announce the release of new Vishay Sfernice 40 LHE linear position sensor. The compact device uses non-contacting Hall Effect technology and measures 35 mm by 14.5 mm by 28 mm. The 40 LHE provides linearity down to ±1% (full stroke), resolution of 12 µm, and a lifespan greater than 10 million cycles. It supports electrical strokes up to 40 mm, compared to previous-generation devices limited to 10 mm.

The sensor is designed for high-accuracy displacement measurement in servo loop motion control systems requiring small displacement monitoring. Applications include infrastructure integrity monitoring such as crackmeters in bridges and buildings, digital farming with dendrometers, in-line process measurement, robotic grippers in industrial automation, and medical robotic grasping forceps. It is also suitable for throttle and pedal position sensors in e-bikes and motorcycles, railway equipment, ships, and agricultural machinery.
For operation in harsh environments, the 40 LHE features IP67 sealing and withstands high-frequency vibration up to 20 g and shocks up to 50 g. It includes integrated reverse voltage protection (-10 VDC) and overvoltage protection (+20 VDC), eliminating the need for external protection circuitry.
The device offers analog ratiometric or digital (PWM) output signals and has versatile “2 faces” fixing holes for horizontal or vertical mounting. As a “true power on” device, it reports position immediately upon power-up without recalibration, re-homing, or initialization routines, even after power loss. This removes the need for battery backup.
The sensor is available with a spring return option and can be customized on request. It operates with a supply voltage of 5 VDC ±10% and supply current of <16 mA typical. The recommended load resistance is 1 kΩ for both analog and PWM output.
Samples and production quantities of the 40 LHE are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks. The device is RoHS-compliant.
