Power Integrations announced on March 23, 2026, at APEC 2026 in San Antonio, the introduction of the new TOPSwitchGaN flyback IC family. The devices combine the company’s PowiGaN technology with the TOPSwitch IC architecture and extend the power range of flyback converters to 440 W.
This development allows flyback converters to reach power levels that traditionally required more complex resonant or LLC topologies. The ICs provide 92% efficiency across the load range from 10% to 100% load and achieve no-load consumption below 50 mW at 230 VAC, including line sense. They meet European Energy-related Products (ErP) regulations with standby and off-mode power consumption under 50 mW without requiring synchronous rectification.

The TOPSwitchGaN ICs incorporate 800 V PowiGaN switches, which offer lower RDS(ON) than silicon, resulting in reduced conduction losses and increased power capability. They support switching frequencies up to 150 kHz to minimize transformer size and provide excellent surge withstand capabilities with low switching losses. Up to 210 mW of output power is available for 300 mW input at 230 VAC to support housekeeping functions in standby mode.
The new ICs are suitable for high-end appliances, e-bike chargers, and industrial applications. They are available in two package styles:
Low-profile eSOP-12 surface-mount package for ultra-slim designs, enabling 135 W (85–265 VAC) delivery without a heat sink in applications such as appliances.
Vertical eSIP-7 package that minimizes PCB footprint and has thermal impedance equivalent to a TO-220 part. A metal heat sink can be mounted using a simple clip to achieve higher power levels for applications including power tools, e-bikes, and garage openers.
The TOPSwitchGaN ICs are pin-to-pin compatible with TinySwitch-5 offline switcher ICs, allowing the same design methodology across power levels from 10 W to 440 W.
Pricing for TOPSwitchGaN starts at $1.00 in 10,000-unit quantities. Reference design materials include:
DER-1079: 60 W wide-range isolated flyback PSU for appliances using TOP7074K
DER-1019: 356 W highline (89 V / 4 A) isolated flyback industrial PSU using TOP7078E
RDK-1018: 168 W wide-range isolated flyback e-bike charger using TOP7075E
Silvestro Fimiani, director of product marketing at Power Integrations, stated that the TOPSwitchGaN represents a shift in power supply design by pushing flyback into higher power ranges while maintaining simplicity, efficiency, and ease of use. He noted that the TOPSwitch family has a long history of innovation since 1994 and now extends flyback capabilities to applications previously requiring more complex topologies.
The new ICs reduce system cost, complexity, and design time while improving manufacturability and eliminating heat sinks in many cases.
