Vishay VEMD8083 3.2×2.0×0.6mm PIN Photodiode Targets Wearable Heart Rate and SpO2 Monitoring

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced the VEMD8083 high-speed silicon PIN photodiode in a 3.2 mm × 2.0 mm top-view surface-mount package with 0.6 mm profile.

The VEMD8083 provides a radiant-sensitive area of 2.8 mm² and reverse light current of 11 µA at 525 nm, 14 µA at 660 nm, and 16 µA at 940 nm. Spectral range is 350 nm to 1100 nm with ±60° angle of half-sensitivity.

Rise and fall times are 30 ns, and diode capacitance is 50 pF. Operating temperature range is -40 °C to +85 °C.

The device is intended for photoplethysmography (PPG) in biomedical applications including heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring in wearables and consumer health devices.

It is pin-to-pin compatible with competing solutions, RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, Vishay Green, and rated MSL 3 (168-hour floor life).
