Digi International announced the Digi XBee 3 BLU module, a Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 module for IoT applications in industrial, healthcare, retail, and smart building sectors. The module supports provisioning, edge processing, and mobile management, operating in a temperature range of -40 °C to 85 °C for harsh environments.
Available in through-hole and micro form factors, the pre-certified module supports Bluetooth LE 5.4 features, including enhanced range, improved data throughput, and beaconing for proximity detection and asset tracking. It integrates with the Digi XBee ecosystem, enabling compatibility across form factors, connectivity technologies, APIs, and software tools for streamlined integration without extensive redesigns.
The module includes embedded MicroPython programmability, allowing direct access to on-module I/O (digital I/O, 10-bit ADC inputs) and Bluetooth LE connectivity for local data processing and decision-making. Security features include Digi TrustFence with secure boot, hardware-accelerated encryption, Secure Remote Password (SRP) authentication, and 256-bit AES encryption, alongside Bluetooth LE 5.4’s encrypted advertising and secure pairing.
Digi XBee Studio offers device discovery, communication console, configuration, firmware updates, and tools like profile creation and device recovery, with a Quick Setup wizard providing templates for beaconing and sensor monitoring. The Digi XBee Mobile App enables wireless configuration and over-the-air firmware updates via iOS and Android devices, supporting beacon scanning, advertising, and communication use cases. The Digi IoT Mobile SDK, using Microsoft .NET MAUI, provides libraries and documentation for developing cross-platform mobile applications, reducing development time and costs.
