SiTime Introduces TimeFabric Software Suite for Enhanced Timing in VLSI Applications

SiTime announced its TimeFabric software suite. Combined with SiTime’s oscillators and clocks, the suite achieves up to nine times greater time synchronization accuracy compared to quartz-based solutions. This enhanced precision supports improved system performance and utilization in very-large-scale integration (VLSI) applications, particularly in AI data centers and 5G infrastructure.

The TimeFabric software suite comprises two modules: an IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) standards-compliant servo and stack, and a proprietary holdover extension software. The PTP module provides sub-nanosecond synchronization accuracy, offering improved timing stability for network systems. This enables better network traffic scheduling and load balancing, enhancing utilization in applications such as smart network interface cards (SmartNIC), switches, routers, accelerators, remote radio units, base stations, fixed wireless access equipment, and core network equipment. The holdover extension software, compatible with SiTime’s precision devices, supports up to 24 hours of holdover, ensuring operational reliability during GNSS outages or network clock failures, a critical requirement for mobile and network infrastructure.

Key features of TimeFabric include compliance with IEEE 1588-2019 and ITU-T G.8273.2 Class D standards, full timeTransmitter and timeReceiver capability, hardware timestamping support, device drivers for SiTime network synchronizers, and IEEE 1588 management support. The suite is compatible with SiTime’s OCXOs, TCXOs, and network synchronizers and is available for in-field software upgrades.
