Panasonic Corporation announced that its Living Appliances and Solutions Company has developed a cooling water circulation pump for data centers, marking the 70th anniversary of its pump business, which began with home well pumps in 1955. The new pump targets the growing data center market driven by AI technology and aims to expand Panasonic’s pump business, with a goal of 100 million cumulative shipments by 2035.
The pump, designed for integration into Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), addresses the increasing demand for liquid cooling in data centers due to higher heat generation from advanced CPUs and GPUs. It uses Panasonic’s proprietary technology to achieve a 75% performance improvement, increasing flow from 40 to 70 L/min while maintaining the size of conventional pumps. The compact housing allows flexible CDU layouts, and submersible sliding bearings with optimized structural design ensure long-term operation, reducing maintenance needs.
Panasonic’s pump business has shipped over 53 million units since 1955, supplying built-in AC and DC pumps for water heaters, heating appliances, and air-to-water heat pumps used by manufacturers globally. The new data center pump has been adopted in cooling equipment this fiscal year, distributed from the Hikone Factory in Shiga Prefecture.
