Kioxia introduces CM9 Series Enterprise NVMe SSD with 8th gen BiCS FLASH technology
Kioxia Corporation announced the development and prototype demonstration of its KIOXIA CM9 Series PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSDs, the first enterprise SSDs to use the company’s 8th generation BiCS FLASH TLC-based 3D flash memory. This memory incorporates CMOS directly Bonded to Array (CBA) technology, which doubles the available capacity per flash device compared to the previous generation and improves power efficiency, performance, and density.

The CM9 Series is designed to meet the demands of applications such as AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing, which require robust solid-state storage infrastructure with high performance and power efficiency for scalability and cost management. The 8th generation BiCS FLASH uses a CBA-based architecture that increases NAND interface speed, enhances density, improves power efficiency, and reduces latency, directly impacting SSD performance.
Compared to the previous KIOXIA CM7 Series, the CM9 Series delivers performance improvements of up to 65% in random write, 55% in random read, and 95% in sequential write. It also achieves performance-per-watt improvements, with 55% better sequential read efficiency and 75% better sequential write efficiency.
