Littelfuse, Inc. has launched its TP7.0SMD-XC Series automotive-grade transient voltage suppression (TVS) diodes, led by the TP7.0SMD24CA-XC, for protecting sensitive automotive ICs. The series delivers up to 7000 W of peak pulse power in a compact surface-mount package.
Automotive systems with sensitive ICs and low absolute maximum ratings (AMR) need protection components that clamp close to the circuit's working voltage. Conventional TVS devices may not reach that level on their own, leading designers to connect multiple devices in series and add cost, complexity and board space. The TP7.0SMD24CA-XC uses foldback technology to provide a low, flat 24 V clamping voltage and up to 7000 W of peak pulse power in a single DO-214AB (SMC) package. Littelfuse says this is the first time it has combined this level of surge capability with foldback clamping performance in an SMC device.

The series targets automotive 12 V battery systems, including zone control units (ZCUs), anti-reverse protection and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). When connected in series with a conventional TVS device, it can extend low-clamping protection to 48 V battery systems. Key features include a 10/1000 µs waveform; reduced or eliminated series-connected TVS devices; support for selecting lower-voltage-rated MOSFETs while meeting automotive requirements; AEC-Q101 qualification and PPAP capability; a junction temperature range of -65 °C to 175 °C; IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection up to 30 kV (air/contact); IEC 61000-4-4 EFT protection on data lines; and matte tin lead-free plating, halogen-free construction and RoHS compliance.
Charlie Cai, director of product marketing at Littelfuse, said: “By employing advanced foldback technology, the TP7.0SMD-XC series achieves an extremely low clamping voltage that conventional TVS devices can’t match, while still passing automotive jump-start compliance testing. This gives our customers the headroom to protect sensitive ICs with low absolute maximum ratings, reduce component count, and even specify lower-voltage-rated MOSFETs without compromising on automotive reliability.”
The TP7.0SMD24CA-XC is available in tape-and-reel packaging in quantities of 3,000. Samples are available through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.
