Emerson has announced its new Rosemount 9000 Series Magnetic Flow Meter portfolio, which launches with the Rosemount 9732 Magnetic Flow Transmitter and the Rosemount 9205 Magnetic Flow Sensor. The new features are meant to improve flow measurement, simplify troubleshooting, and keep critical processes running reliably across industries such as chemical, oil and gas, metals and mining, food and beverage, pulp and paper, power, water and wastewater, refining, electronics and semiconductors, and life sciences. Bob Halgren, vice president of products at Emerson's measurement instrumentation business, said customers want technologies that let them do more with fewer resources while staying confident in their operations, and that the new series delivers intelligent diagnostics, simpler operation, and trusted measurement performance to improve reliability, cut maintenance effort, and support better decisions.

The advanced diagnostics enable proactive maintenance and faster troubleshooting, which helps reduce downtime. They include coated electrode detection, tunable empty pipe detection, smart fluid diagnostics, and five standard logs covering the totalizer, audit trail, alerts, security, and Smart Meter Verification, Emerson's proprietary diagnostic software. Together, these tools help users spot coating buildup, electrical noise, empty pipe conditions, and other problems, reducing false readings and improving process reliability.

Built-in Smart Meter Verification lets users confirm meter health and measurement performance without removing the sensor from service or stopping operations. The standard version provides pass/fail diagnostics, including sensor health checks, while the advanced option adds detailed electrode and coil health data with historical logging. This speeds up troubleshooting, supports regulatory compliance, and lowers calibration costs, helping ensure dependable flow data in critical processes.

The enhanced sensor design improves accuracy and long-term stability for consistent measurements in demanding applications. Improvements include an advanced magnetics design, optimized sensor construction, a redesigned housing, intrinsically safe wiring, and a 50% reduction in power requirements. These changes produce stronger, more stable signals, delivering up to four times better out-of-the-box performance.

A universal power supply simplifies installation and removes configuration errors, cutting setup time and the risk of incorrect wiring. The meter accepts either AC or DC power, making it flexible for global sites and retrofit projects without the need to reorder or reconfigure. Configurable outputs make integration and commissioning easier by adapting to a wide range of control system requirements. With support for analog, digital, and pulse outputs, along with user-defined scaling, alert mapping, and fail-safe behavior, the meter helps reduce commissioning time, minimize wiring errors, and stay compatible with both legacy and modern systems.
