Advanced Energy Industries has launched the DF150, a ruggedized 160W AC-DC power supply and the first product in the company's new Defiant Future (DF) series of robust, high-reliability standard power supplies built for extreme-environment applications across defense, industrial, telecommunications, transportation, and energy sectors.
Backed by rigorous validation testing, the DF150 carries a broad range of MIL-STD certifications, which are U.S. military standards for equipment durability and electromagnetic performance, combining proven performance with the shorter lead times typically associated with a standard, off-the-shelf power supply. It's certified to MIL-STD 810H, meaning it can withstand harsh conditions including shock, vibration, altitude changes, and temperature extremes. It also offers enhanced electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance, meaning it resists and limits electromagnetic interference, through certification to MIL-STD 461G. The unit delivers a nominal 27 VDC at 6A (160W) with no performance degradation across an extended operating temperature range of -46°C to +60°C. It also carries an IP67 rating, making it fully submersible and exceeding military ingress protection requirements for dust and liquids.
Joe Voyles, vice president of industrial power conversion products at Advanced Energy, said the Defiant Future family is designed to deliver uninterrupted power to critical applications where reliability is non-negotiable. He said the DF150 marks a significant step forward in what's possible from a standard commercial defense power supply, delivering the performance and breadth of MIL-STD certifications often associated with custom-designed solutions, while offering the availability and lead-time advantages of a standard commercial product.
The DF150 delivers up to 91% efficiency at full load, operates with no minimum load requirement, and has low leakage current of 275µA at 230 VAC. Its MIL-STD-461G certification covers a range of specific tests: RE102, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, CS118, and RS103. Advanced Energy offers the DF150 with two cooling options, conduction cooling through a base plate, or convection cooling with a mounted heatsink, along with other options including various input cable configurations and case colors.
