Emerson has released the Flexim FLUXUS 631 series of portable non-intrusive clamp-on ultrasonic flow meters for measurement of liquids, gases and steam. he FLUXUS 631 series serves as the flagship of Emerson’s portable flow measurement portfolio. It provides temporary, on-demand flow measurement without interrupting operations and supports flow meter and equipment verification, condition monitoring, leak detection and energy performance analysis.

The devices target applications across oil and gas, chemical, power, food and beverage, water and wastewater, metals and mining, and life sciences sectors. Five models are available to address a range of uses, including measurement of liquids, gases, low- and high-temperature steam, and thermal energy.

Setup for liquid measurements can be completed in under five minutes. The series features a refined human-machine interface with a large integrated display that shows installation graphics, live values and trend visualization. A high-capacity lithium-ion battery provides more than 25 hours of autonomous operation, with a low-power mode extending runtime up to 80 days for long-term monitoring.

The enclosure is rated IP65 and IP67 for use in demanding environments. Advanced compensation mechanisms support accurate measurements in disturbed flow conditions and with limited straight pipe runs. Different measuring principles and advanced electronics enable repeatable measurement across media types, including low-pressure gases, liquids with entrained gas or solids, high viscosity liquids, saturated steam and high temperature steam.

An integrated Dynamic Gas Meter function handles variations in gas composition and allows determination of gas density and concentration without a chromatograph. The series includes dual measurement channels with update rates up to 20 milliseconds. Connectivity options comprise Modbus RTU, digital and current outputs, and USB interfaces for data transfer and configuration.

“Driving efficiency improvements requires greater visibility to all aspects of operations,” said Rebecca Cottrell, product manager for Emerson’s measurement instrumentation business. “With the flexibility to measure the flow of liquids, gases and steam using a portable non-intrusive device, the FLUXUS 631 series enables more informed decisions that result in improved plant performance.”
