Analog-to-MHL/HDMI converter ICs for products to support analog video

Silicon Image announced analog-to-MHL/HDMI converter ICs for connecting analog sources to HDMI or MHL-enabled DTVs. With these new adapters, consumers can enjoy content from legacy VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, set-top-boxes, and console games that have analog outputs on the latest HDMI or MHL-enabled displays - including 4K UHD TVs. In addition, these new ICs - when integrated into DTVs and displays - allow manufacturers to remove expensive and bulky legacy analog inputs on the TV, saving board space and overall cost. "HDMI and MHL have become the de-facto connectivity standards for connecting CE and mobile devices, with over three-and-a-half billion enabled products combined on the market," said C.H. Chee, senior director of marketing at Silicon Image, Inc. "Being able to connect legacy analog devices to late model DTVs brings the digital experience to a whole new audience. Our converter ICs delivered with complete reference designs make it easy for OEMs to create small form factor analog-to-MHL or analog-to-HDMI adapters." The Sil8784 IC is designed to accept analog component, composite or VGA input and convert it to either HDMI or MHL, allowing for a variety of adapters to be implemented.
