Siemens Acquires ASTER Technologies to Integrate PCB Test Engineering into Xpedition and Valor Portfolios
Siemens announced the acquisition of ASTER Technologies, a privately held company based in Cesson-Sévigné, France, specializing in printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) test verification and engineering software.
The acquisition integrates ASTER’s “shift-left” Design for Test (DFT) capabilities into Siemens’ Xpedition and Valor software, both part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio. This creates a continuous digital thread from PCB design engineering to manufacturing, with test coverage analysis as a core component.
The combined solution allows companies to prepare designs and implement test strategies early in the PCB assembly process. Siemens stated that this approach supports earlier defect detection, reduced costs, faster time-to-market, and higher product quality and reliability.
ASTER, founded in 1993, supplies software for verifying, assembling, and testing PCB assemblies. Its flagship product, TestWay, provides DFT planning and implementation, test coverage analysis, and optimized test programming. These tools complement Siemens’ Valor capabilities for design for fabrication and assembly, forming a comprehensive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) solution.
