Micron Breaks Ground on $100 Billion New York Megafab in Clay, Onondaga County

Micron Technology officially broke ground today on its planned $100 billion leading-edge memory manufacturing complex in Onondaga County, New York. The project, located in the town of Clay, is expected to become the largest semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United States upon completion.

The site is designed to eventually house up to four fabrication plants. Micron estimates the full project will generate approximately 50,000 jobs in New York state.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Micron Chairman, President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra and other company executives, together with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Senator Charles Schumer, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon, several members of Congress, and representatives from customer companies, suppliers, academic institutions, labor organizations, nonprofits, and community groups.

Micron described the Central New York project as the largest private investment in the history of New York state. The facility is intended to produce advanced memory products to support growing requirements of artificial intelligence systems and related technologies.

Following the site ceremony, a program featuring remarks from executives and officials took place at Syracuse University’s National Veterans Resource Center.
